MTB Dalmatia Island Hopping

Where limestone is born.

Experience unparallel nature diversity from barren karst of Brac and its unique vegetation to dramatical Hvar ridgeline spreading its finger-like vineyards towards the southern shores littered with limestone towers and hidden coves.

The island of stone, Brac, where almost everything is built out of stone, showcases stonemasonry tradition dating to middle ages. We will ride single tracks built by the Franciscan monks in the 16th century while being taken into the hidden gorges of the central part of the island.

We’ll hop on a speed boat and land on Hvar, the island of lavender. Boasting with the oldest theatre in Europe, the City of Hvar is for sure a perfect starting point for the second leg of this adventure. UNESCO island, with a maze of winding single tracks going through Plavac Mali vineyards connecting to a network of walking paths surrounding Europeans oldest organised farming field in Starigrad.

Lavender fields scattered all over the central part of the island are in perfect bloom during April and May. Loads of white roads through lavender fields will take us to Hvar ridgeline from where the vistas reach all the way to Italy. Lavander fields are bordered with stone walls all over horizont and are like an islands among hundereds of acers of vinyards. We will be hopping from one peak to another changing the scenery from purple flowers of lavander to yellow and black grapes in the vineyards.

From Hvar we'll continue on the speed boat to Korcula, birthplace of famous explorer and traveller Marco Polo. Creator of Silk road was born in Korcula island which was inhabitated since neolitic times. Our mapped route will take us on singletracks connecting some enormous caves where evidence of neolitic settlement was find in many places like in Vela spila.

Stone walls will create boundaries of our playground here as well, marking the beggining of olive tree plantations and end of vineyards.

Native white grapes from Korcula is Posip, fully body and very dry white wine, many consider the best there is on Croatia. From an island of famous traveller to Mljet, island where Greek hero Odyssey struck his fleet being lurred by the syrens. Harsh terrain on Mljet will force us to mix singletrack with old goat and donkey trails as well as gravel roads. All of which will take us to the southern edge of the island where high cliffs will invite the bravest ones to jump and refresh their body and soul in crystal clear Adriatic sea.
