MTB Gorski Kotar and Velebit adventure

Boasting as the longest mountain range in Croatia, Velebit will show you its many different faces alongside its 140 km length.

 

Acting as a wall to block the cold air heading towards the coast, it offers dramatical scenery on its ridgeline that is going to take your breath away. The lucky ones who join us in late spring, summer and early autumn will be rewarded with magnificent views across the Adriatic all the way to Italy.

 

From Risnjak national park our track will take us to Sjeverni Velebit national park with almost constant views on the Adriatic and the coastline. We will make a small detour to Kuterevo, a famous bear sanctuary where bear baby orphans are saved from tragical life occurrences. The ancient city of Otocac will be one of our stopovers for cultural boost, dating way back to the 11th century, it was a stronghold built on an island with floating homes of its citizens who lived on the lake.

 

Before attacking the longest mountain range in Croatia, we’ll put our Giant e-MTB in the “living room” of Nikola Tesla, that is Lika area. We’ll trailblaze through dense pine forests' singletrack, ending on open plains stopping by Tesla's birthplace in Smiljan. Museum and his inventions enabled many things we use on daily base in our lifes, and our e-MTB would not be operating without Tesla's inventions of alternating current.

 

After we climb back from Lika to Velebit across magical Kosinj valley we will end the climb near Stirovaca. Velebit ridgeline will once more offer us views of Croatian islands of Rab, Pag and Losinj.

 

From there we will head out to Baske Ostarije, mixing the singletrack up with white roads following the ridgeline where it's possible across grassy open plains.

 

This last night in the camp is reserved for barbecue and watching the star decorated sky with views on the twinkling lights on the islands and in the channels between.
